Art History Spirituality
Also Known As The "Green Heart of Italy"

PLEASE, READ MORE ABOUT UMBRIA...

HOW TO GET THERE

Umbria is often called "the green heart of Italy" for its green landscape and for its landlocked location. The region is cut in the middle by the Flaminia road, one of the four famous consular roads that were departing from Rome and going to all ends of The Roman Empire. Train connections are good, as well, with Rome and Florence and a regional airport provide connections with Milan Malpensa airport.
Local public transportation is also good, bus service is well developed around the region with many lines operating from the major centers like Perugia, Gubbio, Spoleto, Terni.
For a good exploration of the region a car is strongly recommended.

WHAT TO DO

Immerse yourself in the Serene Green of Umbria

Umbria, known as "the green heart" of Italy is moving head of Tuscany, its so-called "big sister," among those travelers seeking authenticity and good taste in a tranquil setting.
Umbria is rich in spirituality and religious history -- both traditional and alternative -- and much of its splendid art work reflects that.
The largely rural area, free of heavy industrialization, produces fine wines, freshwater fish, meat and its own unique breads made without salt.
Umbria is a land of saints, poets, artists, warriors and popes. Marvelous churches abonds around the entire region and authentic architectural jewels can be faound around the region even in small villages.
The architecture is unique, and different from its neighboring big sister Tuscany. A classic example is the San Francis Basilica in Assisi, that nobody should miss, with its perfect balance of Romanesque-Gothic-early Renaissance three level churches.
Perugia is a very unique mix of Etruscan-Roman-Renaissance city with many architectural testimonials of its rich past.
A place not to be missed is the Collegio del Cambio (Perugia's medieval Exchange Guild) painted by Pinturicchio (Bernardino di Betto Perugia 1454-1513) an incredible and unique pictorial work.
Gubbio, Todi, Spoleto, Orvieto none of these medieval Umbrian cities are not to be missed.
